Why We Don't Chase High-Volume Keywords

We take a different approach. We target three types of searches exclusively:

The System: 7 Agents, Zero Headcount
The full system runs on six Claude Code agents and one skill library. Each component has a specific job, a specific schedule, and its own log file.

Agent 1: Keyword Planner
The Keyword Planner is the intake layer for the entire system. It runs monthly and pulls rising keyword opportunities from SpyFu, focusing on competitor-intent and review-type queries in our category.

- Connects to the SpyFu API and pulls rising keywords for a defined competitor set
- Filters for alternative, comparison, and review patterns (“X alternative”, “X vs Y”, “X review”)
- Generates suggested titles and content angles for each keyword
- Saves everything to a master CSV with status tracking
- Deduplicates automatically — no double entries, no redundant content

The Competitor Monitor runs monthly and tracks new pages our competitors publish. Its job is to identify new content opportunities before they gain traction — then feed them into the keyword planner automatically.

- Fetches each competitor's sitemap and compares it against last month's snapshot
- Identifies new pages published in the last 30 days
- Flags pages that target keywords we could counter — alternative pages, feature comparison pages, hub content
- Pushes identified opportunities directly into the keyword planner CSV
- Logs all detected pages with publish dates and content types
This agent is how we stay one step ahead on competitive content. If a competitor publishes a “Clay vs Apollo” comparison page, we know within 30 days and can publish a counter-page before their new content has time to compound. Agent 3: Blog Writer
The Blog Writer is the engine of the system. It handles a complete content production workflow — research, writing, SEO optimization, image generation, and publishing — without any human steps in between.
The write workflow (every post)
- Research first. Before writing a single word, the Blog Writer searches the target keyword, fetches the top 2–3 ranking posts, and extracts their structure, tools mentioned, word count, and tone.
- Identify gaps. What are the top posts missing? Which tools did they skip? What angle hasn't been covered? The Blog Writer differentiates on those gaps — not just producing another version of what already ranks.
- Write with format discipline. Each post type (alternative listicle, comparison, review) has a defined structure. Mandatory sections include TL;DR, overview, comparison table, FAQs, and conclusion with CTA.
- Pass quality checks. Every draft runs through the seo-audit, seo-images, seo-schema, and ai-seo skills before the Blog Manager publishes it.

The Technical SEO Agent runs twice a week. It connects to Google Search Console via API and pulls the current crawl coverage and error reports.

- Redirect chains: collapses multi-hop redirects to single-hop

- Crawl anomalies: pages that dropped out of the index without a manual noindex — flags for review
- Sitemap drift: pages present in the blog directory but missing from the sitemap batch files — adds them
- URL canonicalization issues: duplicate content signals from trailing slash variance
After each run, the agent submits an updated sitemap to Google Search Console via the API — without any manual action. Page coverage problems are resolved and resubmitted within the same run cycle. This is how we maintained 98%+ crawl coverage throughout the 30-day ramp-up, even as we were publishing daily.

Agent 5: Backlink Manager
Backlinks remain the most durable ranking signal. The Backlink Manager runs on-demand — triggered when we want to push a specific post up the rankings or after a cluster of new posts is published.

- Pulls contact emails for site owners using Google Workspace CLI — no third-party enrichment service required

- Sends outreach in batches with built-in rate limiting to avoid spam flags
- Logs all outreach with timestamps and response tracking
This is the most human-adjacent part of the system. The agent does the prospecting and drafting — but we review the final batch before sending. Outreach volume: 20–40 prospects per on-demand run. Response rate: 8–12%, which is standard for link exchange outreach when the pitch is personalized and the target page is genuinely relevant.

Agent 6: Blog Manager
The Blog Manager is the orchestrator. It fires at 2am every morning and does two things: assign the next keyword from the planner to the Blog Writer, and audit already-live posts for problems.
The publish side
- Reads the keyword planner CSV and picks the next unassigned, high-priority row
- Passes the keyword, content type, and angle to the Blog Writer skill
- Waits for the Blog Writer to complete (typically 8–12 minutes for a full post)
- Marks the row as published in the planner CSV
- Appends the post to posted-blogs.txt and the sitemap batch file
The audit side
- Scans the 10 most recently published posts for broken images (src returning 404)
- Flags posts missing their banner image CDN URL
- Checks that all sitemap batch entries have valid publish dates
- Logs audit results to blog-manager-log.txt for weekly review
The audit side is what prevents quality decay at scale. When you are publishing daily, problems accumulate silently unless you have an automated check. The Blog Manager catches broken images, missing schema, and formatting issues before they affect ranking.
Why 2am?
Publishing at 2am local time means the post is indexed and live before the US East Coast business day starts. Google's crawl window for recently active sitemaps is typically within a few hours of publication — so a 2am publish reliably shows up in search by 9am. This timing is a minor but measurable factor in how quickly new posts get their first impressions.

Step 1: Install Claude Code and configure your project
